Some Tenants Are Just Passing Through

Our facilities in West Milford have many different types of tenants, some of which have been the 4 legged varieties.  Not too long ago, on a rainy slow day, I was sitting in the office at my desk at Greenwood Lake Turnpike.  Movement outside the front door caught my eye and to my surprise a beautiful red fox was walking through the storage facility.  There had been no activity all morning because of the weather and she was just leisurely walking along.  I ran to get the camera but I missed her, she was already gone into the woods that surround this facility.  I was very disappointed that I did not get that picture but was really excited to see this fox.  I have lived in West Milford for many years and this was my first fox sighting.  We are accustomed to the deer and the bear, one time we had three bear cubs climbing in the cherry  tree that used to be located in front of the office.  They were adorable but anyone in West Milford knows that where there are cubs there are mamma bears so you better stay away.  I even had a coyote waltz past me within 10 feet.  Unlike this beautiful fox, that coyote was pretty mangy looking.

Later that day she made a brief appearance but again I did not get the picture.  Within the next week or so I encountered her 2 more times, both early in the morning before any activity began in the facility.  At the Greenwood Lake Turnpike facility we have twelve buildings which house many self storage units.  We do security rounds twice a day, once upon entering and then before leaving at the end of the day.  The purpose of these rounds Is to check to make sure each unit is locked properly, see if any tenants vacated and to make sure everything is all right in general.  While doing my security rounds two mornings in that same week I found my foxy friend around the facility.  One morning she was sitting at the corner of building #8, I pulled up to her in my car and we were both checking each other out.  I think we both felt unthreatened as long as I was in the car.  She got bored with this after a few minutes and sauntered off again into the woods.  The second morning that week I saw her she was walking around the outside perimeter of the facility checking something out in the woods from a distance.  I distracted her from whatever she was doing, she had a look of annoyance like “not you again” and again walked into the woods, but again.    That was it, I decided I was leaving a digital camera in my car .  I thought I would catch her another morning and finally get my picture.  Of course I have yet to see her since………Obviously my foxy friend was a temporary tenant.  Oh well, some tenants are with us for a long time and others are just passing through.  We welcome them all!
